At Archive, we take pride in our employees’ incredible work ethic, and we want to reward and recognize that by offering an unlimited PTO policy.
Unlimited PTO means there isn’t a prearranged number of available days off. We’ve adopted this policy because we believe in empowering everyone with high trust and the flexibility to manage their time effectively and to take time off as needed – promoting a work-life balance.
Eligibility
- Applies to all Archive employees, including full-time contractors.
Policy Elements
- There are no accruals or rollovers. For example, any unused PTO at the end of the year or upon termination will not be compensated.
- Archive will still track the PTO days for each employee to ensure that:
- Employees take the minimum time off.
- Employees don’t take time off that compromises their and their team’s performance. Employees are encouraged to schedule PTO in a manner that respects their team dynamics and project timelines.
- All employees are required to take at least 10 days off each calendar year.
- Extended time off (more than 2 weeks) should be discussed and approved with your manager at least 2 weeks in advance to allow for planning and coverage.
Fair & Responsible Use
- New hires are highly encouraged to focus on adding value rather than extracting value from the company, but we know that illness and emergencies are out of your control.
- Communicate and collaborate with your team to ensure full coverage and management for specific projects and AoRs.
- Managers can consider rejecting vacation requests if:
- Other team members with similar/complementary duties have already asked for leave during the same time.
- The time in question is too busy (e.g. product launch) or includes an important deadline for the employee asking for leave.
- An employee appears to abuse the policy.
Types of PTO
- Sick
- For illness, injury, or other medical recovery.
- Personal
- For voluntary, travel, rest, relaxation, or recreation.
- For personal matters such as but not limited to appointments, moving, mental health days, family emergencies, power or internet outages, family or personal circumstances, or any other reason resulting in an inability to work.
- Parental
- Leave of absence
- Case-by-case basis defined outside of this policy, unpaid.
